Trigonometry Formula

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is the study of relationships between the sides and angles of a triangle.

Trigonometric Ratios

Trigonometric ratios of the angle A in the right angle triangle ABC is defined as  follows:

Sine of angle A =   Side opposite to angle A    =    BC
                                      hypotenuse                   AC

Cosine of angle A =   Side adjacent to angle A      =   AB
                                        hypotenuse                     AC

Tangent of angle A =  Side opposite to angle A      =  BC
Side adjacent to angle A         AB

Cosecant of angle A = 1 / Sine of angle A =          hypotonuse                         =    AC
Side opposite to angle A                BC

Secant of angle A  =  1 / Cosine of angle A =         hypotonuse                         =    AC
Side adjacent to angle A                 AB

Cotangent of angle A =  1 / tangent of angle A = Side adjacent to angle A       =     AB
Side opposite to angle A              BC

The ratio above are abbreviated as sin A , cos A ,  tan A , cosec A , sec A and cot A respectively.

we can also say that,

tan A = sin A / cos A

cot A = cos A / sin A

Reciprocal Identity

1) sin A =1 / cosec A

2) cos A = 1 / sec A

3) tan A = 1 / cot A

4) cosec A = 1 / sin A

5) sec A = 1 / cos A

6) cot A = 1 / tan A
