Interesting Animal Fact #8:: God of the ugly things



You might be wondering, "who is the god of the ugly things". well, it is a type of grasshopper known as weta. There are over 100 species of weta in New Zealand. It is flightless and nocturnal which means it is active during the night. Some wetas are good jumpers like the tree weta and some are not like the giant weta. The giant weta is huge and often outweighs a mouse. They call it the god of the ugly things because it looks very ugly for most people. The Maori people gave this name to the weta.

Interesting Animal Facts #7 :: The only vegetarian spider

 

                    

The only vegetarian spider is Bagheera Kiplingi, a  species of jumping spider. Unlike its meat-eating relatives, it is mostly vegetarian. It eats acacia nectar and the shrub’s leaf tips. Ants protect them.

Interesting Animal Facts #6 :: Sharks that walk on land


Epaulette sharks can actually walk on land. 
They can survive without oxygen for 3 hours. They use this ability to venture into tidal pools which are inaccessible to other predators. They are found in Australia and New Guinea. Another cousin of this shark usually called as a black banded bamboo shark can survive out of water for 12 hours

Interesting Animal Facts #4 :: Do not feed onions to your dogs

 



                Dogs are allergic to onions and their relatives (garlic,

 leeks, etc.,). They contain a toxic principle called N-propyl

 disulfide. This compound leads to the breakdown of cells. It

 causes damage to the dog’s blood cells by attaching oxygen

 molecules to the dog’s blood cells. Hence never ever feed

 onions to your lovely dogs!
